More than 1,500 absconders from the Tri-Forces have been taken into custody for neglecting to return to duty without proper discharge.
Following directives from the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Sampath Thuyacontha, operations to detain tri-service members who abandoned service without formal resignation began on February 22.
As of yesterday (19), 1,604 deserters had been detained. Reports indicate that 1,444 were captured in Tri-Forces-led operations, while 160 were apprehended by law enforcement.
The Ministry of Defence further confirmed that among those detained, 1,394 were Army troops, 138 belonged to the Air Force, and 72 were Navy personnel.
